Centaurea maculosa, spotted
knapweed Pulling:
Ryan pulling knapweed for the insectary,
6/28/00 near Cardwell, MT. We clip off the foliage and transplant
these into the insectary beds for the biological control insects to eat.
Despite our efforts to rapidly collect the weevils and moths out of the
insectary, they kill many of the plants that we "tenderly" transplant,
fertilize, water and care for. Spotted knapweed is a short lived
perennial with a tap root.
