Summer Class 2004 Photos 4

Getting the net ready to dump in to containers.  We cool the containers in the fridge and then separate out the Larinus from all the other unwanted insects with the pump pictured below.

Using the lab vacuum pump to aspirate (bug suck) the Larinus out of the mass of mixed insects and plant parts that came from the sweep nets.  We refrigerate them first to slow them all down so that it is easier to separate and count them.  photos by Mike Battaiola.
